Cædmon's
 "Satan's Speach"
My translation of
1400 year old poetry
Cædmon was an Anglo-Saxon sheep herder who died around 680 AD. It's said he learned to compose poetry in a dream. This is one of the ancient religious poems attributed to him. I translated it from an 1860's Anglo-Saxon Reader I found in an antique store.

Help rescue a damsel in distress. And a knight. Perhaps a viking or two...

The 2010 Renaissance Faire  $250.00

In the shadow of the ancient tower is a gathering of magic and might. The clamor of battle rings across the field. The sweat drips down the warrior's scarred face as he accepts the challenge of the knight across the glade. The smell of wood smoke and seared meat fills the air. A child squeals. A Princess laughs. A Queen shouts a command. A bard chants in time with the drumbeats pounding like horse hooves through the tents.

It's not a scene from ancient Europe.
It's The Ishpeming Renaissance Festival and Art Faire!

Recently, the great fantasy artist Frank Frazetta passed away. Frank painted with such raw savagery and life that his figures seemed to be about to leap off the canvas and attack you. The above painting is my tribute to Mr Frazetta, although I'm sure he laughs at my attempt!.

People often ask me where I come up with these crazy ideas. My inspiration is all around; In the knotted roots of a huge tree, the spirituality of ancient stories, the incongruencies of dreams, the horror of nightmares, the passion in my own heart.

Ask about a personal piece of art
for the odd one in your life!

Swans are majestic and beautiful creatures, fitting for a  Princess. The man tying the swan to the piling seems to be a typical looking gondolier, but he's well muscled and armed. The Princess' guards are adorned in carnivale type masks and headgear.
The background is Venetian in feel, but the buildings have been 'stretched' and given mass. The scene feels familiar but alien all at once.
This painting was recently featured in a multi-artist exhibit at the Historic Peter White Public Library in Marquette, MI
