Artist's Statement
The world I see is different than the one you may see. My eyes and my mind are constantly bombarded with color, light, patterns and shifting shadows. The exhilaration I get when I look over a landscape is what I try to capture in my art, then pass on to the viewer.
Often the line between my imagined world and 'real' world is blurred. In my fantasy art, I try to convey very real emotions; the hatred, love, anger, serenity, fear and courage that we've all felt. When I paint a landscape I try to show the viewer how fantastic and magical our world can be!!

So wander through this site and enjoy my oil paintings. Some of the art is intended to be thought provoking. Some just for fun.

I am an author, I write for a living as well as a jewelry designer of seed beaded creations. I am looking for a illustrator to work with me on my stories, I do not have alot of money but I loved your work John French as well as Angela Pierces'. But she is not commissioning any of her works, I can not understand why not? This way the both of you would become famous one day, when my books get sold to the famous people out there, too. So I was wondering what you charge to work with me? thanks much appreciated and I hope the Universe will hear you calling out for all the new love in the works that you do. blessings to you.

About Me:
I was born in Santa Fe, NM. When I was three years old, I watched my aunt draw a picture of me, and I've been hooked since. As a child, I spent four years in Italy with my Air Force father. Many of my formative years were spent viewing the ancient art and architecture of the Renaissance. After our European Tour we moved to the wild and beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I took several art classes and workshops as I grew, including one with Michigan's own Bill Hamilton. After high school, I attended Northern Michigan University, studying under
Thomas Cappuccio . I gave up college so I could work and support a family, but kept studying on my own. I'm basically self-taught.
Since mid-2009, I have proudly served on the Board of Directors for
The Marquette Symphony Orchestra. In June 2011, I was nominated and elected as the Vice President of the MSO's Board of Directors.
I'm also on the Ishpeming Renaissance Art Faire Committee.
In 2010 I ran for an elected position on the Ishpeming City Council, but lost. There are other ways to help a community! I have since taken on other projects. This includes helping with The Art on Ice E-mag, and I'm currently president of The West End Community Arts Nework (WeCan!). Check out my first interview here!
   I am represented by The
Moonshine Art Gallery in Michigamee,MI, where I had a successful exhibit and reception in 2009. I'm also represented by The Vertin Gallery in Calumet, MI.
   I've attended
The Outback Art Fair in Marquette, MI. I also had a solo exhibit in Madison, WI at Mother Fool's Coffee.
I regularly support local non-profit organizations and businesses. Click
here to see many of them.
Besides being a full time artist, I'm also a full time dad. I've also worked at Pioneer Surgical in Marquette, MI since July of 2000.

Policies:
These are one of a kind pieces of original art. Orders are filled on a first come first serve basis. I will try to make you happy by offering a replacement or commission.

About Prints: I occasionally market and sell prints of my work. However, once a painting sells, you have my promise that I won't make any more prints from that painting. I want your painting to retain its value!

I reserve the right of reproduction of my paintings for marketing and promotional material, including the use images of sold paintings on this website, on Facebook, business cards, post cards, postersetc. Again, I won't make and/or sell prints of sold paintings.

Payment in full is required before artwork is shipped.

I use third party checkout sites. I never even see your credit card information.

If you wish to purchase by check or money order, please contact me at 906-204-4683, or email at john@artofjohnfrench.com . In most cases, I will wait to ship until the check has cleared the bank.

I ship within the United States only. I ship within three business days. In some local cases I deliver personally.

You may hang and view your painting for seven days after you get it. If you decide that you don't like it, return it for an even trade or a refund. After seven days, all sales are final except in the case of damaged goods or misrepresentations on my part.

All commissioned sales are final. If you are not satisfied, I'll do my best to fix it. For obvious reasons, I can't offer refunds on commissions. Nobody wants a painting of your dog or your house.
